Led the strategic direction and operational P&L performance of a £10M turnover plastic component business. Enjoying a successful record for delivering target sales growth and above sector profits through a dynamic period of product development.

Re-engineered a $3M turnover USA subsidiary based in Chicago through the closure of local manufacturing, site relocation, proactive promotion and a change of management.

Management of all marketing activities, including corporate identity, international exhibitions, media presentations and business development through sales agencies and distributors.

Conceptualised and delivered strategic business and marketing plans which:

  • Increased sales from £ 4.5M (1992) to £ 9.8M (1998)
  • Achieved operating profits of £ 480K (96), £ 463K (97), £ 607K (98)
  • Transformed USA subsidiary from losses into profit
  • Improved sales per head from £ 44K to £ 52K (185 people)

Led a number of improvement, quality and training initiatives culminating in successful:

  • Registration to ISO9002 (1995)
  • Recognition by Underwriters Laboratories USA to the UL746D standard (1997)
  • Approval by BPTA to operate as an NVQ Injection Mould Training Centre (1997)
  • Investors in People registration (1998)

Working as an independent business advisor contributing to a new business start-up distributing satellite communications equipment, a plastics business seeking an equity buyout and a small equipment manufacturer to market an electro-magnetic test facility.

Manufacturers and distributors of electronic components

Enjoyed nine years of varied executive board appointments within a private £6M+ t/o group, holding four posts simultaneously within diverse geographically separate operations all of which reported directly to the Chairman and Managing Director.

Key figure in a three man team who successfully negotiated a DTI supported £1M European grant / loan finance package and for the operational restructuring and logistical consolidation of four sites into a purpose built facility in the North East.

  • Developed and managed a series of franchised regional sales centres
  • First board appointment in 1984
